In a statement posted on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump said the agreement would include the suspension of “all kinetic activity” and the exchange of 1,000 prisoners from each side.

He said the initiative for the temporary truce was made directly by him and expressed appreciation to Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy for agreeing to the proposal.

Trump described the arrangement as a three-day pause in the conflict, noting that it coincided with Victory Day commemorations linked to the Second World War.

He added that discussions aimed at ending the war were ongoing and expressed hope that the ceasefire could contribute to broader peace efforts.

The conflict began with Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022, and has continued for more than three years. The latest ceasefire, brokered by the United States, is in effect from May 9 to May 11, 2026.
