National Conference on Sunday termed the government probe in an involvement of NC in Kupwara protests as ridiculous.

According to reports, the state government has initiated a probe after complaints that some Hurriyat activists were involved in incidents of stone pelting and that opposition National Conference (NC) fuelled the recent protests in Kupwara.

NC General Secretary, Ali Mohammad Sagar told a local news agency, KNS, that either it is official or not but NC is such organization which bore worst ever brunt of violence but didn’t react ever.

“We were targets of militants in past but we didn’t react over the issues. Holding NC responsible for protests is ridiculous,” he said.

Sagar said that everybody knows that who fuelled the protests in past. “People of Jammu and Kashmir are well knowledgeable about the facts that who fuelled the protests in past. We never react over such things. The protests in Kupwara were genuine and NC is the party which will never try to fuel protests over the killings,” he said.

He said that if the government would have acted sensibly, the killings could have been avoided. “It has been due to this that we are demanding that a judicial inquiry should be held over the killings,” he said.

Pertinently, the state government according to reports has initiated a probe after complaints that some Hurriyat activists were involved in incidents of stone pelting and that opposition National Conference (NC) fuelled the recent protests in Kupwara.

A senior official according to local daily has said while the initial incident of protest in Handwara was spontaneous and was triggered over the reports of alleged molestation of a girl, subsequent protests were fuelled by the opposition.

“Even a relative of a slain youth was associated with NC,” he has said.

An official said some of the employees who have been suspended “for instigating violence” are associated with NC.
