Kishtwar police as part of its drive against gambling and drinking at public places on Sunday arrested eight persons including a National Conference NC) affiliated Sarpanch, two teachers from Poochal area on the outskirts of Kishtwar town.

While divulging the details, Dy SP HQ Kishtwar Farooq Qaser told Kashmir Life that acting on a complaint, police party from police station Kishtwar under the supervision of SHO Kishtwar Mushtaq Ahmed conducted raid at Poochal and arrested eight persons while gambling.

Farooq Qaser said that an amount of Rs 8920 and two sets of placards were recovered from the possession of gamblers. He said that all the accused were booked under 13 gambling act. The arrested persons were identified as Jatinder Kumar son of Naib Chand (Sarpanch Poochal-B), Ravi Kumar son of Mohan Lal, Babu Ram son of Hari Lal(Teacher posted at M/S Suzna Bhata Palmar), Anil Kumar son of Amar Chand (Driver), Pardeep Kumar son Hans Raj, Sanjay Kumar son of Mohan Lal, Pawan Kumar son of late Jewan Lal (Teacher M/S Kuriya) and Boop Ram son of Nehar Chand all resident of Poochal Kishtwar. Local people appreciated the police action against the gamblers.

It is pertinent to mention that in last couple of days, Kishtwar police booked at least 30 persons for drinking at public places and also those who create ruckus at public places under the influence of alcohol.
