National Conference (NC) staged walkout during the question hour from the upper house over Chairman Haji Anayat Ali’s refusal to constitute house committee into alleged bungling in distribution of MGNREGA funds in Kishtwar District.

Ex-Home Minister and NC MLC from Kishtwar, Sajjad Kitchloo alleged that an FIR has been lodged in which a Block Development Officer (BDO) has accepted that Rs. 2.5 crore has been withdrawn from the official account of MGNREGA. He said that the BDO has even mentioned names of the individuals who have allegedly withdrawn this huge amount from the MGNREGA account.

Kitchloo alleged that the department is reluctant to take action against the accused officials. He demanded that a house committee should be constituted to probe into this massive bungling in the rural development department.

However, Minister of State for Rural development Sunil Sharma while replying to the question of NC MLC said that FIR doesn’t mean case has been proved. “It simply indicates that prima facia there is a case of embezzlement of funds. We would look into it and order a departmental inquiry, if required,” said the MOS.

However, this did not pacify Kitchloo, who reiterated his demand for constituting a house committee.

Chairman while rejecting the demand, said, “Since the minister has assured of taking action, there is no need for constituting a house committee.”

Irked by the decision, Kitchloo along with his other MLC colleagues from NC staged walkout from the house.
