NC Will Split, Government Will Fall: LoP Sunil Sharma

SRINAGAR: Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma on Wednesday claimed that internal differences within the National Conference (NC) would lead to a split in the party and the eventual fall of the Jammu and Kashmir Government.

Reacting to protests following the recent oath-taking ceremony, Sharma said a section of the party was opposed to dynastic politics and had been demanding an end to family rule.

“There is a discontented group within the party that has consistently been demanding that family rule will no longer continue. Dynasty will no longer continue,” he said.

Claiming that a split had already taken place within the NC, Sharma said the divisions would eventually affect both the party and the government.

He also rejected allegations that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had approached NC legislators to explore the possibility of forming a government.

“When I am telling you that the BJP will not form the government, why would we approach anyone? What is the need for us to approach them? This is their own fight. Why should we jump into it?” he said.

Sharma also criticised NC president Farooq Abdullah over his remarks concerning Pakistan, accusing the Abdullah family of supporting Pakistan and calling for action by investigating agencies.

“Anyone, regardless of age, whether young or old, who makes such statements against the country should face action. Farooq Abdullah should also face action,” he said.
