SRINAGAR: The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved a 3 per cent increase in Dearness Allowance (DA) for central government employees as part of the July 2026 revision.

The latest increase follows the Cabinet’s approval in April of a 2 per cent hike in Dearness Allowance and Dearness Relief (DR) for central government employees and pensioners, which took the rate to 60 per cent of basic pay.

The government revises DA and DR twice a year, in January and July, to help employees and pensioners offset the impact of inflation.

Dearness Allowance is paid to government employees as a percentage of their basic pay to compensate for rising living costs, while Dearness Relief serves the corresponding purpose for pensioners.
