A high level Rajouri bound National Conference Sadhbavna delegation led by provincial president Devender Singh Rana was on Thursday afternoon intercepted at Bamla by the district administration and stopped from proceeding towards the border town.

Among others, the delegation comprised State Vice Presidents Peer Mushtaq Ahmad Bukhari, State Secretary Th Rachpal Singh, Sajjad Ahmed Kitchloo and Babu Ram Pal, Dr. Kamal Arora, MLA Bishnah, Aijaz Jan, ex-MLA and provincial president YNC, Dr. Chaman Lal Bhagat, ex-MLA,  Brij Mohan Sharma, ex-MLC, Mohammad Aslam Khan, ex-MLA, Bashir Ahmad Wani, Ch Haroon and Gurdeep Singh Sasan, provincial vice presidents, Shaffayat Khan, District President Rajouri, Sajjad Shaheen district president Ramban besides Abdul Gani Teli, Raj Kapoor, and S. Nirmal Singh .

“The administration did not listen to the plea of National Conference leaders who were going to the town with a message of peace and expressing solidarity with the people becoming fodder of murky politics being played by the coalition partners as part of diversionary tactics from the real issues,” Rana said in a statement.

While wondering that peace efforts were being scuttled to give a free hand to mischievous political actors igniting the volatile situation rather than calming it down, Rana said, “It is undemocratic; the government is fearing that once we go there, its sinister machinations will get exposed.”

He said the government has failed in instilling confidence among the people by taking appropriate measures, as a result of which the situation has gone out of hands. “PDP and BJP were hand in glove in infuriating the peace loving citizens.”

Cautioning against divisive politics being pursued by PDP-BJP coalition in bid to divert the attention of the people from its failures on all fronts, Rana said that covert attempts are being made to divide Jammu and Kashmir on communal and regional lines. “The duo is encouraging trouble by roping in notorious fanatic elements, which have let loose, a vicious campaign primarily to disturb the harmony and peace.”

While urging the people to see through the game plan, the provincial president said that effective counter to this would be maintaining communal harmony and brotherhood for which Jammu and Kashmir is known far. He hoped the people will not fall prey to their machinations and get provoked as this will amount to playing in the hands of anti-social elements.

He said National Conference cannot be cowed down by use of force, as it has grown amidst challenges. “For harmonious growth of people of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh, we are prepared to offer any sacrifice,” he said and vowed that those behind the Rajouri trouble will be exposed.

The Provincial President made a fervent appeal to the sagacious people of the Rajouri district and its adjoining areas to maintain peace and fight the decisive elements unitedly. “History stands testimony to the crucial role played by the Poonch-Rajouri belt in keeping the flame of amity and brotherhood aloft during most testing times,” he said, while hoping that this glorious legacy will continue to guide the people in the prevailing unfortunate situation.

The delegation members decried the administration and blamed the PDP-BJP government for sabotaging the peace efforts because of vested interest to keep the sensitive state on boil.
