SRINAGAR: The new hospital building of Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Bijbehara has been completed and is functional, while the Jammu and Kashmir Government has said there is currently no proposal to construct another hospital building at the facility.
The Health and Medical Education Department stated this in response to starred question D No. 1/6/599, tabled by Srigufwara-Bijbehara MLA S Bashir Ahmad Shah Veeri regarding the construction of a new hospital building and the status of residential quarters for medical staff.
The department said the new building had been constructed and made functional in response to the persistent public demand for a replacement facility, particularly in view of the earlier building having been declared unsafe.
It said there is presently no proposal under consideration for construction of another new hospital building at SDH Bijbehara.
On the residential quarters for doctors and paramedical staff at PHC Sirhama and PHC K Kalan, the government said the facilities have not yet been handed over to the Directorate of Health Services, Kashmir.
The works were initially taken up by JKPCC Ltd. but were delayed following the merger of JKPCC with the Public Works Department, despite funds having been released for the projects, according to the department.
The government said the works would be taken up after the funding gap and the financing mechanism required for their completion are ascertained.
