SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Government has taken up tourism infrastructure works worth Rs 92 lakh at Daksum during the current financial year, including projects under the 2026-27 Capex Budget and construction of a double-bed-room hut.
The Tourism Department said Rs 22 lakh has been approved as the 2026-27 outlay for three works with a combined estimated cost of Rs 80 lakh. These include fencing and allied works at Daksum, development of a departmental hut and construction of a public convenience facility en route to Daksum in Dandipora Park.
The department provided the details in response to starred question D No. 1/6/566, tabled by Kokernag MLA Zafar Ali Khatana regarding allocation of funds and development of tourism infrastructure at Daksum.
It said Daksum is a prominent tourist destination with potential for further tourism development and that measures have been undertaken in phases to improve basic infrastructure and visitor facilities.
Tourism facilities already created at Daksum under the Swadesh Darshan Scheme of the Ministry of Tourism include eco-log tourist huts, a tourist facilitation centre, a security cabin, tourist benches and solid-waste management facilities and dustbins.
Under the 2026-27 Capex Budget, the department has taken up fencing and other allied works at an estimated cost of Rs 40 lakh, with an approved outlay of Rs 6 lakh for the current financial year.
Development of a departmental hut, including ceiling work, bathroom repairs and electrical works, has an estimated cost of Rs 30 lakh, against which Rs 10 lakh has been approved for 2026-27.
A public convenience facility en route to Daksum at Dandipora Park has an estimated cost of Rs 10 lakh, with Rs 6 lakh approved during the current financial year.
The department has also taken up construction of a double-bed-room hut at Daksum at an estimated cost of Rs 70 lakh. The work is currently in progress.
The government said an office and public convenience facility is already available at Daksum for visitors.
It also attributed limitations on further permanent tourism infrastructure to the availability of suitable government land. Substantial portions of land in and around Daksum fall under the jurisdiction of the Forest Department, it said.
Any additional permanent infrastructure will therefore depend on the availability of suitable land and obtaining the required statutory clearances and no-objection certificates from the concerned departments.
