SNUBBED: Congress president Sonia Gandhi has snubbed state Congress leaders including Ghulam Nabi Azad for questioning “visible administrative inexperience” of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. She wanted strengthening of Omar’s hands irrespective of the situation prevailing in the state. It was only after the “mistrust” within coalition was addressed the cabinet expansion became a possibility. Congress stalwarts were fighting over accommodating their favourites in the cabinet that was one of the many reasons for delaying the expansion. Reports about certain disgruntled Congressmen seeking support from PDP to bring down the government also appeared in newspapers.

MISSING: Zahoor Ahmad Mir Son of Ghulam Nabi Mir of Galwanpora Sepdan district Budgam working with Vodafone Lajpat Nagar Delhi office is reported missing since Monday last. Zahoor was also doing M Phil in history at a Delhi University through distance mode.

ARRESTED: Police have detained over 400 people across Kashmir for indulging in stone pelting or fomenting trouble. Of them seven were booked under the Public Safety Act. Maximum number of people was picked up from Baramulla, followed by Kulgam and Islamabad districts. From Shopian that is on strike for last six weeks, over three dozen people were picked up. Most of them have been slapped charges of disturbing peace to attempt to murder.

CRASHED: A Himalayan Heli Services Private Limited choppers crash landed near the revered Hindu cave of Amarnath killing a devotee while five others were injured. Dead woman was identified as Mrs. Kalavati of Madhya Pradesh. Injured included O P Aggarwal, Tej Pal Singh (UP), Rajesh Kumar and his wife Vandana (Kolkatta) and pilot Captain Parminder Singh.

LOOTED: Burglars looted J&K Bank Kishtwar and decamped with around one crore rupees. The branch located very close to the police station is facing the guarded residence of Assistant Commissioner Revenue. The burglary was noticed only the next morning when staff found the shutters broken and fiddled with.

HUMILIATED: Legislator, Engineer S A Rasheed was humiliated by Rashtriya Rifles triggering massive protests in Mawar belt of Langate-Handwara. Rasheed had intervened to get a driver freed. Later, army ordered a court of inquiry into the incident.

THREATENED:  State police chief Kuldeep Khuda threatened NDTV reporter Fayaz Bukhari for reporting on July 8 allegations by family of Asrar Mushtaq Dar that the youth disappeared in police custody. police has also lodged an FIR against Rahi alleging him for having created panic over double rape and murder in Shopian. Working journalists in Kashmir have taken serious note of intimidation and harassment of members of the fraternity by State police authorities.

ARRESTED: Two Special Police Officers (SPOs) Daljeet Singh and Joginder Singh were detained for raping a 80 year old woman Zaitoona Begum in Marmat area of Doda. Police have registered a case under section 376 and 458 for further investigations.

SUICIDE: Alleged harassment by intelligence agencies and police’s Special Operation Group (SOG) forced 35 year old Inayat Hussain Khan, a father of two and lone bread earner for the family, to attempt suicide in Bhaderwah.
He was being frequently summoned by police officials to police station after he was once picked up for being a militant accomplice.
