SRINAGAR: A 38-year-old newspaper vendor died after sustaining a gunshot wound to the head in the Resham Ghar area of Jammu on Thursday, with police saying they suspect it to be a case of suicide.
The deceased was identified as Deepak Sharma, a resident of Resham Ghar. He was shifted by his family to Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu in a critical condition, where doctors declared him dead.
Sharma worked as a newspaper vendor, according to the information available.
Family members said they had no prior information about the incident. They said Sharma returned home from work and had dinner, following which they suddenly learnt about the shooting.
Police said the circumstances surrounding the incident were being investigated. While the preliminary suspicion is that Sharma may have died by suicide, officials have not ruled out further investigation into the circumstances of his death.
