Regarding the implementation of the National Food Security Act (NFSA), the District Development Commissioner Srinagar Dr. Farooq Ahmad Lone, today chaired a meeting which was attended by Additional District Development Commissioner, SDM and other concerned officers here.

The meeting was informed that the NFSA will be implemented in the district from March 2016. During the meeting the DDC said the food act is a social welfare and reform oriented measure aimed at providing highly subsidized food grains to the poor and marginal sections of the society, a communique informed.

Further it was given out that the Srinagar district has a digitized population of around 13 lakhs, which will get ration at a uniform scale.

The DDC was informed that more than 50000 families will get 35kg and above ration per month, while as 1.70 lakh families 25kg and above and more than 8000 families under AAY category will continue to get Rs 3 per kg rice and Rs 2 per kg flour.

The DDC said people will get assured supply of ration right at their doorsteps in a hassle-free manner and a three-tier grievance redressal mechanism has been put in place.

The meeting sought cooperation of people to correct the ration data base so that e-tickets can be distributed in a transparent and in a time bound manner, the communique added.
