SRINAGAR: Employees of the National Health Mission (NHM) on Friday called off their strike following assurances from the Jammu and Kashmir government on their long-pending demands.
The decision came after a meeting between representatives of the NHM employees and the government, during which several issues raised by the employees were discussed.
NHM employees said the government had assured the employees that their proposals would be followed up and examined, while certain decisions would be deferred for further consideration.
According to them, the government has also directed the Mission Director, NHM, to appoint a coordinator who would act as a link between the employees and the department and facilitate regular communication on their issues.
The employees said they were satisfied with the government’s positive approach and the assurances given during the meeting.
A representative said the assurances would be followed up for a month, after which the proposals would be examined further.
The meeting was held in coordination with the Health and Medical Education Department. The employee representatives said the assurances had been provided in writing, adding that the government had also discussed the issues raised by the workforce.
The representatives thanked various organisations and sections of society for supporting their demands, saying the effort to resolve the issue was collective.
They acknowledged the support extended by political and social organisations, the Chamber of Commerce and various associations, besides doctors, technicians and other employees.
The NHM employees had been pressing the government over their demands and had sought policy measures concerning their service conditions and other issues.
Following the government’s assurances, the employees decided to withdraw the strike and resume their duties.
