Liyaqat Shah, who was cleared of terror charges by National Investigation Agency last year, was on Wednesday “gravely injured” in an attack by a wild bear in Lolab area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

The 67-year-old Liyaqat son of Sekhi Shah, a resident of Syed Mohalla, Dardpora Lolab was attacked by the bear in the forest area near by his house, a police official was quoted by a news gathering agency.

He was shifted to nearby hospital for treatment wherefrom he was shifted to Srinagar hospital in critical conditions, the official added.

In January last year, NIA filed charge sheet against a fugitive police informer, exonerating Liyaqat whom the Delhi Police Special Cell had arrested in 2013 on charges of being a ‘suicide attacker’ of Hizbul Mujahideen group.

The NIA, in the charge sheet, said that weapons had been planted on Shah to frame him.
