SRINAGAR: As their leader presented himself before the NIA in Delhi, his executive and other trade leaders’ assembly on a silent protest in Srinagar’s Partap Park. This, they said, was aimed at registering their protest against what is happening to the trading community.
KTMF president Yasin Khan was summoned to Delhi by the NIA as a witness is trade finding case that the agency is investing for many months now. The retail trade body has called for a day long strike that has closed the business and most of the educational set up in Srinagar.
Protesting retail leaders said they were on a silent protest against the summoning of businessmen to Delhi and they see it as a deliberate harassment.
While most of the members were sitting on protest, they had their leaders talking to them, detailing the tensions they are being deliberately subjected to. The sit-in had representation from almost all the associations that make KTMF.
The members were wearing black straps on their hands as a mark of protest. They said they are merely registering a protest just to convey that “their patience is being tested” by the systems in Srinagar and Delhi.
The federal investing agency NIA has summoned a scholar and Khan on Friday. They have been summoned as witnesses and not as accused.
A spokesman of KTMF said the sit-in was planned to register protest and exhibit support to Khan. “He has already got into the NIA headquarters,” a spokesman of the KTMF said. “We are all his colleagues and our members from district trade bodies have also joined us.”
