Nine officials of Sheep and Animal Husbandry Department were killed Tuesday when their departmental vehicle fell into a deep gorge between the Sinthan Top and Chatru road in south Kashmir, official sources said.

The team of officials was on a official visit and was returning from Sinthan Top to Chatru at the time of accident, sources said. Police and other rescue officials have been rushed to the spot.

A Tata Sumo bearing Registration No JK17-840 reportedly met with an accident near Potato farm resulted into on spot death of all the nine occupants travelling in the said departmental vehicle.

Among the dead is District Officer Sheep Husbandry Kishtwar Mohammad Rafiq Akhoon, while 8 others are the employees of the department. They include Dr. Aamir Kamal, Mohammad Rafiq Akhoon, Irshad Ahmed Wani, Driver Mansoor Ahmed, Abdul Rehman Reshi, Sat Lal, Ramesh Kumar, Ahmadullah and  Ghulam Nabi.

The ill fated vehicle was on its way to Warwan via Sinthan top for organising a special camp of the department to facilitate better Medicare to the live stock in the area.

Meanwhile, state Home Minister, Sajjad Ahmad Kichloo has rushed the area and condoled the deaths.
