Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front chief, Muhammad Yasin Malik, Saturday said that Kashmiri students are being “beaten, harassed and intimidated” in Indian states and “no one is paying heed to their miseries”.

“Instead a drama is being staged at NIT Srinagar to hide these atrocities and divert attention from it,” Malik said while addressing a press conference here, according to a JKLF statement. “Today Indian rulers, their Kashmiri stooges and forces have fallen so low in disgrace that they have started desecrating graves and graveyards. Kashmiris will not tolerate all these government sponsored anti-Kashmiri acts and will stage a one day protest shutdown on Tuesday 12th April 2016 against this.”

While strongly condemning the on-going “onslaught against Kashmiri students across India”, Malik said, “no day passes when Kashmiri students are not being beaten, harassed, intimidated and bullied in India and this phenomenon has taken a very ugly colour now. Students who are busy in their studies and are trying to make their futures are being made scapegoat for pity political interests.”

Giving details of Kashmiri students being harassed throughout India, Malik said, “from Delhi to Mewar and Jodhpur to Noida, this intimidation of Kashmir students is on rise and hooligans backed by the Indian state are busy playing with the careers of these Kashmiri students. As this state sponsored terrorism is on, prolonged NIT Srinagar Drama is being played to hoodwink public opinion and hide these oppressive attacks on Kashmiri students and divert attention from it.”

“Kashmiri students are being beaten, jailed, tortured, humiliated and harassed in Indian but Indian media pretends to know nothing about it, instead this biased media is 24/7 reporting false propaganda on NIT Srinagar and this is done to hide atrocities and oppression unleashed against Kashmiri students in Indian states,” he added.

Malik said, “Kashmiris have never interfered in educational institutions and for us education should never be politicized but the way Indian political parties and media have launched an assault on Kashmiris and are communalizing atmosphere in the name of NIT can only be termed as mental and moral bankruptcy of these people. On one side Kashmiris are being oppressed and on the other side some people are coming to invade Kashmir with their flags. Kashmiris have seen these gimmicks of flag hoisting in past too. Murli Manohar Joshi had too visited Kashmir for the same. Indians killed more than one Lakh Kashmiris but have these brutalities succeeded in erasing sentiment of freedom from our hearts.”

“When killings, atrocities, oppression and suppression could not succeed in halting our march towards freedom how can these few jokers with flags achieve that,” asserted Malik.

“Kashmiris have and will always stand for communal harmony and we have showed this Muslim Kashmiri character even during 2008 when Hindu chauvinists blocked us but we despite provocation provided food and shelter to Amar Nath Yatris and recent floods when we fed and rescued Indian tourists and Hindu brethren living here,” he further said.

“Such is the limit of moral bankruptcy of Indian rulers, their Kashmiri stooges and forces that Indian forces have started desecrating graves and graveyards now. Kareemabad Pulwama martyrs graveyard desecration is a glaring example of this insane attitude. Small kids and youth are being slapped with PSA and whoever completes his PSA period is being slapped with another PSA immediately. Only day before during a nocturnal raid Indian forces tortured a 60 year old man and killed him in Shah Abad Dooru,” he added.

JKLF chief further said, “these oppressive measures, reign of terror against Kashmiris in Jammu Kashmir and harassment of Kashmiri students studying in Indian states is not acceptable and Kashmiris will observe a complete shutdown on Tuesday, 12th April 2016, against growing attacks on Kashmiri students in various Indian states and other oppressive measures of India.”

“JKLF will also stage a protest sit-in at Lal Chowk on 11th April 2016 in which a collective voice will be raised against attacks on Kashmiris in Indian sates and other oppressive measures,” he said.
