Responding to a question by Shagun Parihar in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Health and Medical Education Minister Sakina Itoo said there is no proposal under consideration to expand maternity benefits with honorarium for contractual women employees.

The legislator had sought an extension of maternity leave for such workers and proposed two months’ leave with honorarium in accidental cases. The Minister stated that implementing these measures would place a significant financial burden on the government.

She added that existing provisions will continue in accordance with the current policy framework.
