SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly on Tuesday accepted a private member’s resolution seeking age relaxation for candidates appearing in the Jammu and Kashmir Combined Competitive Examination (JKCCE) for JKAS and allied services, along with a complete waiver of application fees for other government job recruitments.

The resolution was moved by Aga Syed Muntazir Mehdi, MLA Budgam representing the Peoples Democratic Party, during the ongoing Budget Session. It proposes a significant increase in the upper age limit for JKCCE aspirants, which is currently capped at 32 years for open merit candidates.
It also recommends eliminating application fees across other recruitment processes to ease financial pressure on unemployed youth.
Speaking in the House, Mehdi said the proposal seeks to address difficulties faced by aspirants due to repeated examination delays, sudden schedule changes, and stringent age limits in the JKCCE/JKAS process since 2019. He said waiving fees would reduce financial barriers for candidates from economically weaker backgrounds and encourage wider participation in public sector employment.
With the resolution formally accepted, it will now be taken up for detailed discussion during the current Budget Session. The development has attracted cross-party attention, reflecting broad support for measures aimed at expanding opportunities for youth in Jammu and Kashmir.
Mehdi termed the Assembly’s acceptance a “first victory” for young aspirants, expressing hope that it would lead to more inclusive and accessible recruitment policies in the Union Territory.
