SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Government has said there is currently no proposal under consideration to increase the monthly honorarium paid to Lumberdars and Chowkidars, whose rates were last revised in 2016.
According to a Revenue Department reply submitted in the Legislative Assembly, Lumberdars are paid Rs 1,501 per month while Chowkidars receive Rs 1,500.
The department said the rates were last revised through Government Order No. 59-Rev of 2016 dated April 29, 2016, following Cabinet Decision No. 15/02/2016 of April 27, 2016.
Before the revision, the monthly honorarium was Rs 751 for Lumberdars and Rs 750 for Chowkidars. The 2016 order doubled the rates to their present levels.
The government was responding to an Un-Starred question by MLA Javaid Ahmad Mirchal seeking details of the honorarium paid to the two categories across the Union Territory and the date of its last revision.
Asked whether the government intended to enhance the honorarium and, if so, when, the Revenue Department replied that no such proposal is under consideration in the department.
