SRINAGAR: Subsidised helicopter services have resumed across the Union Territory of Ladakh from Tuesday, providing air connectivity to remote and far-flung areas under a government-supported scheme.
The services have been recommenced by the Ladakh Administration through its Civil Aviation Department and are being operated by Pawan Hans Limited under a wet lease agreement supported by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
According to the administration, the service is aimed at improving intra-UT connectivity, facilitating the movement of residents and tourists and meeting emergency medical requirements, particularly in areas with limited road connectivity.
The flights are being operated by licensed, instrument-rated crew, with airfield security and passenger screening arrangements in place.
The notified subsidised fares are Rs 7,750 for the Leh-Kargil route, Rs 6,975 for Leh-Padum, Rs 4,650 each for Leh-Lingshed, Leh-Dibling, Leh-Nyerak and Leh-Diskit, and Rs 6,190 for Leh-Turtuk.
The flying time ranges from 30 minutes to 50 minutes depending on the route.
The district administrations have been directed to provide logistical support, ensure operational readiness of designated helipads and nominate liaison or nodal officers for coordination of the services.
Deputy Commissioners have also been asked to publicise the helicopter services through official social media handles and print media platforms.
Passengers can book tickets online through the official Ladakh Helicopter Service portal.
