Jammu and Kashmir Police will have no representation at the prestigious annual conference of India’s top police brass which will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday in Kutch district of Gujarat.

It is learnt that permission for state Police Chief K Rajendra and Inspector General (CID) A G Mir to leave for the conference was not given by Chief Minister Mufti Sayeed, who is in-charge of the Home Department, media reports said Thursday late evening.

This is for the first time that the sensitive border state will not be having any representation to the annual conference of Directors General and Inspectors General of Police being organised by the Intelligence Bureau (IB).

During the three-day conference, the top police brass will be staying in make-shift tents erected in the district that shares the international border with Pakistan.

The event is likely to be attended by over 100 top police officers from the country.

On Saturday, the prime minister, who will be present on all the three days, will be leading the police chiefs for a session of yoga and ‘Surya Namaskar’.

The reason for the two top security officials from J&K being not allowed to proceed was not immediately known and no one from police or from the state government was willing to speak on the issue today.

It is believed that the Chief Minister was apparently not happy over certain developments on the law and order front that included disappearance of three youths from Kupwara in North Kashmir.

A meeting of the J and K Cabinet is scheduled to be held tomorrow during which a reshuffle of top police officials is expected to be discussed.

The Kutch conference is a platform where police chiefs, paramilitary top brass and intelligence heads share their experience and discuss threats from across the border as well as from other countries.

During conference, various sessions will be held on radicalisation of youths, a problem that J&K is facing in a big way since start of this year.
