SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Government has said there is currently no proposal under consideration to waive electricity charges or outstanding bills for farmers and domestic power consumers.
The Power Development Department, in a reply to Starred D. No. 1/6/79 by MLA Rajeev Kumar Bhagat, said consumers in these categories continue to be billed according to the tariff approved by the Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission (JERC) for the Union Territory.
The department said electricity bills are being issued in the normal course on the basis of actual or assessed consumption, in accordance with the existing billing procedure.
The reply also makes no mention of any decision to suspend recovery of outstanding electricity usage arrears from farmers or domestic consumers.
The response was issued on behalf of the Minister in charge of the Power Development Department through the Under Secretary to the Government, PDD.
