SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Government has said that there is currently no proposal under consideration to establish a Mini Secretariat in Beerwah, even as the administration has asked Deputy Commissioners across the Union Territory to assess the need for such complexes in their districts.
The Revenue Department gave the information in response to a question raised by Beerwah MLA Shafi Ahmad Wani regarding the proposed establishment of a Mini Secretariat in the area.
According to the department, a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on September 8, 2026, directed all Deputy Commissioners to assess the requirement for Mini Secretariat complexes in their respective districts. They were asked to submit proposals and Detailed Project Reports, along with the necessary supporting documents, through the Financial Commissioner (Revenue), J&K.
The government did not, however, identify any proposal specifically for Beerwah as being under consideration at present.
On the functioning of the Sub-Registrar Office in Beerwah, the department said the post of Sub-Registrar was sanctioned through Revenue Department Notification No. 02 dated January 31, 2019, read with Government Order No. 117-JK (Rev) of 2019 dated October 24, 2019.
The charge had earlier been held by the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), Beerwah. The government said a separate officer has now been posted as Sub-Registrar, Beerwah, in substantive capacity under Government Order No. 1463-JK (GAD) of 2026 dated September 1, 2026.
The Sub-Registrar’s office is currently operating with the manpower available in the SDM Office, Beerwah, while the administration is pursuing arrangements for alternative accommodation and lower-level staff.
