Minister for Medical Education, Taj Mohi-u-Din Wednesday said that Army never played in role during State Assembly Elections in Jammu and Kashmir.
“We should not drag Army into politics. People would lost faith in democratic set up if political leaders kept on issuing statements against Army and claim that they play active role during elections in the State,” Taj Mohi-u-Din told CNS reiterating that former Indian Army Chief General V.K.Singh humiliated not only political leaders of the State but the institution of Army as well.
Taj was reacting to the allegations leveled by former Chief Minister Dar Farooq Abdullah that Ghulam Hassan Mir had defeated his brother Mustafa Kamal in the Tangmarg constituency because of Army help.
“Dr Shiekh Mustafa Kamal frequently alleges that Taj bags Assembly seat with the help of Army, which is absurd. We must not drag the name of Army everywhere. Army works independently and this institution has nothing to do with politics. If we keep on involving Army everywhere then people would not repose trust and faith in democratic set up and would start believing that whatever happens here is being done by Army,” Taj said.
While replying to a question, Taj said he was surprised to hear that Farooq Abdullah has claimed that one of the Army Captain tried to shoot Omar Abdullah when he was a sitting MP. “Omar never talked about that incident, if it is really true then the matter should be probed,” he said.
Pertinently, Union Minister Dr Farooq Abdullah in an interview to National Daily has said that Ghulam Hassan Mir had defeated his brother Mustafa Kamal in the Tangmarg constituency because of Army help. He also said that an Army Captain had been about to shoot his son, Omar Abdullah –then an MP – on the Srinagar-Jammu Highway when the latter tried to overtake an Army vehicle.
