SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir government on Wednesday ruled out any plans to waive electricity bills for households with terminally ill patients or those belonging to the fishermen community.
In response to a query by MLA Hilal Akbar Lone, the government informed the House that under its ongoing amnesty scheme, 275,081 domestic consumers have benefited from a 100 percent waiver on interest surcharges on outstanding electricity bills.
The Minister in charge of the Power Development Department (PDD) said that under the Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) category, domestic consumers would receive 200 units of electricity free of cost, as recently announced by the government.
The minister also clarified that there is no specific provision for terminally ill patients or the fishermen community. (KNO)
