Chief Minister and National Conference Working President Omar Abdullah Monday addressed a public meeting in Diskit, Nobra in Ladakh and said that certain political parties had three different stands in three different regions of the State on the same issue and were planning to weaken the regional amity within the State for reaping localized political dividends.

Omar also lauded the spirit of hard-work and compassion of the people of Nobra and said that he stood inspired from the warmth with which he was always welcomed in the region.

While campaigning for sitting MLA and NC candidate from Nobra, Tsetan Namgyal he said that Nobra despite being an area of tough terrain, climatic conditions and despite being cut-off from the rest of the State for most of the year had witnessed landmark progress in governance during the last six years. “Due to the massive distances between inhabitations and the adverse climatic conditions, we felt a need to bring the administration closer to the people so that they did not have to travel great distances for an interface with the Government. This is precisely why we created a new Tehsil in Diskit, Community Development Blocks in Turtuk, Bogdang and Sumoor while creating new Nayabats in Panamik, Khalsar, Charasa, Diskit and Bogdang. Due to this initiative, the people of Nobra will get a huge relief and the administration will be at their doorsteps”, Omar said.

Lashing out at PDP, he said that PDP’s standing in the region was demonstrated by the fact that it couldn’t find a candidate in Nobra and had to import somebody from Leh to contest in Nobra. “You should ask Mufti Sayeed what has he done for Nobra in particular and Ladakh region in general during his tenure as Chief Minister? What does Mufti Sayeed know about Nobra and what are PDP’s stakes here apart from only converging with Congress and BJP in Nobra to work against Tsetan Namgyal? The sheer number of candidates – adopted and imported candidates included – signify a concerted attempt to divide the people of Nobra and fragment their voice for political manipulation. I am certain that Nobra will defeat such sinister designs and will ensure the victory of Tsetan Namgyal in the coming elections,” Omar added.

“Congress – which has remained our partner in the coalition government for six years is also working against us in Ladakh and this has gone to an extent where a senior Congress Minister from the region, who continues to be a minister even now, is putting all his efforts into the goal of defeating Tsetan Namgyal from Nobra. There is extraordinary interference into Nobra’s political affairs and efforts are being focused on Nobra to exploit you and I am certain that you will never allow these plans to succeed,” the NC Working President said.

Omar also expressed amusement at Congress’s ownership of all good things done by the Coalition Government while choosing to criticize NC for their own glaring failures rather than admitting their mistakes and introspecting for their own welfare. “If the points of criticism are deflected towards me, so be it. But then the achievements of the Coalition Government during the last six years are also solely of National Conference. One can’t have the cake and eat it too”, Omar said.

“I have never interfered into the local, autonomous functioning of the LAHDC in the last 6 years in the true spirit of local autonomy that is a medium to ensure a more responsive system of governance in far flung areas where decentralized governance is imperative. I will always put the interests of the people above and beyond partisan and disruptive politics and I assure you that not only will Tsetan Namgyal continue serving you with utmost dedication but also that National Conference will continue to be a flag-bearer for equitable development and justice in the State”, Omar added.
