Four non-locals including two non-muslins have been detained by police for their alleged involvement in the recent stone pelting protests in old city here.

Official sources told GNS that they were detained in separate raids after their involvement in stone pelting incidents surfaced. They have been identified as Mahinder Singh (Goldsmith) son of Bishet Singh of Uttrakhand, Ram Kumar (labour) son of Ram Hengen of Bihar, Muhammad Nawaz (carpenter) and Muhammad Danish (Carpenter), both hailing from Uttar Pradesh (UP).

An official wishing not to be named said that initial investigations revealed that they were forced by some locals to participate in the stone pelting protests.

However, the official said the police was investigating ‘other angles’ to it.

After the completion of the investigation, the official said, they will be freed provided nothing adverse surfaces against them other than what they have stated.
