SRINAGAR: Noora Hospital, Srinagar, has successfully performed the implantation of an advanced inflatable penile prosthesis, marking a significant development in specialised urological and andrological care in Jammu and Kashmir.
The procedure was performed by Consultant Urologist, Andrologist and Renal Transplant Surgeon Dr Yasir Iqbal Lone along with his surgical team at the hospital.
Penile prosthesis implantation is an established treatment for men suffering from severe erectile dysfunction who do not respond adequately to conventional medical treatment.
The foreign-manufactured inflatable prosthesis used in the procedure offers advantages including durability, concealability and controlled positioning. The device allows patients to achieve and maintain an erection when required and can be positioned comfortably when not in use.
Unlike medications and injections, which may not be effective for all patients, penile prosthesis implantation offers a predictable treatment option for appropriately selected patients with treatment-resistant erectile dysfunction.
The availability of the procedure in Srinagar is significant for patients in Jammu and Kashmir, who may otherwise have to travel outside the region for specialised andrological treatment.
Speaking about the procedure, Dr Yasir Iqbal Lone said the aim was to make advanced urological treatments available to patients within the region.
“Our aim is to provide patients in Jammu and Kashmir access to modern and specialised urological treatments that are comparable with those available at leading centres elsewhere in the country. Bringing advanced penile prosthetic surgery closer to patients can make a significant difference to their quality of life,” he said.
The hospital said the procedure further strengthens its capabilities in advanced urology and andrology, particularly in the management of complex erectile dysfunction and reconstructive urological conditions.
