SRINAGAR: A 15-year-old boy died after drowning in a pond in the Manigah Haihama area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Monday.
Reports said Saqib Ahmad Kounshi, son of Liaqat Ali Kounshi, a resident of Glassdaggi Manigah, Haihama, slipped into the pond while bathing.
Locals immediately retrieved him from the water body in an unconscious condition and rushed him to Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Kupwara for treatment.
However, doctors at the hospital declared him dead despite efforts to revive him.
Officials said the body has been kept at SDH Kupwara for medico-legal formalities.
Police have taken cognisance of the incident, and further proceedings are underway. (KNT)
