Three army men were killed and another one is reportedly missing in an on-going encounter at Hafruda forest area of Handwara in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Monday. In another gunfight, a suspected militant has been killed at Lolab in the frontier district.

Official sources told Srinagar based newsgathering agency Global News Service (GNS) that army’s 6 RR had launched massive searches following inputs about the movement of some militants in the area since last two days.

Late last evening, after conducting searches in the vast area, the forces intercepted a group of militants in dense bushes at Tilpatren forest area, some 7 KMs from Hafruda forests, they said.

After being intercepted, the group was engaged in a gunfight by the forces, he said.

In the fierce gunfight, three army men were killed and another one is reportedly missing in the area, they said.

Meanwhile, army along with the additional reinforcement has launched massive searches to track down the militant group hiding inside the dense bushes.

The army has also pressed helicopters into service to trace out the militants.

In another encounter going on at Darpora forest area in Lolab, Kupwara, one militant has been killed so far, they said.

The encounter started between militants and army’s 28 RR and 9 PARA at around 11:30 PM last night.

When reports last came in the search operation in the area was going on.
