SRINAGAR: An unidentified militant was killed, and an AK-47 rifle along with other arms and ammunition was recovered during an ongoing gunfight in the Zachaldar area of Handwara on Monday, an official said.
A senior police officer said that one militant had been killed, though his identity is yet to be ascertained. “An AK-47 rifle and other arms and ammunition were also recovered from his possession.”
Earlier, a joint team of police and the army launched a cordon and search operation in the area.
As the forces closed in on the suspected location, the hiding militants opened fire, prompting retaliation and triggering a gunfight. (GNS)
