SRINAGAR: Police in north Kashmir’s Sopore district on Friday clarified that an old video from the Panzipora area, linked to a 2025 incident in which action had already been taken, is being wrongly circulated on social media as a recent occurrence.
Authorities said they have taken note of the misleading circulation of the footage, which is being shared by some social media users and news pages as if it pertains to a current event.
In a statement, police said the matter had already been addressed at the time of the original incident, terming the renewed sharing of the video as “baseless and unnecessary”.
Sopore Police urged the public to verify information before sharing it online, warning that circulating outdated videos as breaking news contributes to misinformation and causes undue distress to affected families.
Officials reiterated the message “verify before you amplify” and said further examination of the matter is underway.
