SRINAGAR: Police in Sopore have arrested a man in connection with a robbery case and recovered the gold earrings allegedly stolen from a woman in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
Police said the case was registered on August 4, 2026, after a woman from Seelo, Sopore, approached Police Post Bus Stand Sopore and alleged that an unidentified person had deceitfully taken her from the bus stand towards Amargarh.
According to police, the accused allegedly threatened the woman with a knife at Amargarh and forcibly took away her gold earrings.
Following the complaint, FIR No. 192/2026 under Section 309(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) was registered at Police Station Sopore and an investigation was launched.
During the investigation, police examined several suspects and pursued various leads before identifying the accused as Ishfaq Ahmad Bhat, son of Abdul Majeed Bhat, a resident of Yunsoo, Langate, Handwara.
Bhat was subsequently arrested, while further investigation led to the recovery of the stolen gold earrings at his instance. Police said the recovered property has been seized in accordance with legal procedure.
Further investigation is in progress to complete the remaining legal formalities and establish other relevant aspects of the case.
Police urged people to remain vigilant and report suspicious or criminal activity to the nearest police establishment.
