SRINAGAR

Peerbagh area of Srinagar city Wednesday witnessed a spontaneous shutdown against the statement issued by the police in the murder case of Owais Bashir—whose mutilated body was found last week in the area.

Shopkeepers downed their shutters and traffic went off the roads.

While rubbishing the police statement besides terming it “baseless and fabricated”, locals alleged that police is trying to cover up the case—“as it involves a kith of a top cop”.

“Police want us to believe that some eunuch murdered Owais besides hooked him in an imaginary relationship for over a year,” the locals said. “Not only the statement is absurd—but, is equally laughable. Police must come clean on the issue.”

Meanwhile, a top police official who was present at yesterday’s press conference, told Kashmir Life that police have cleared their stand about the case in the press briefing itself. “So, it doesn’t matter now – what locals are saying,” he said.
