Taking a cue from the screening test of Rehbar-e-Taleem Teachers, cops working in Jammu Kashmir Police Department have appealed to the higher ups and the Home Minister of the state to shun the practice of promoting police personnel on the basis of seniority.

A delegation of police personnel told CNS that promotion in the department should be given to only those cops who qualify written tests and seniority should not be made a yardstick to promote a policeman.

They said that the talent and intelligence of young cops gets killed when instead of talent, a cop is promoted on the basis of his seniority. “There are thousands of cops who are talented but don’t get promotion as the department has not been conducting test for the promotion. A constable is promoted to Head Constable when he turns old. Majority of the young policemen especially constables are educated and qualified who deserve promotion. We appeal to the Home Minister of the State of Jammu and Kashmir who is also the Chief Minister to go for ‘test’ practice when it comes to promote policemen,” they said.
