The scientists, students and employees of the Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences & Technology of Kashmir (SKUAST-K) have appealed the Chief Minister Mufti Muhammad Sayeed who is also pro-chancellor of the varsity to expedite the appointment of new Vice-Chancellor while levelling charges of “nepotism against the present VC”.
“The incumbent VC who completed his term on 26th July, 2015 is being kept as a caretaker till further orders,” a formal hand out from the aggrieved parties said.
They noted that the delay in the appointment of new VC has thrown the “institution into even more dark phase”. They alleged that the University has flouted all norms by entertaining admissions in various MSc and PhD courses of agricultural stream at Wadura campus that allegedly lacks the facilities for carrying out research at PG and doctoral level, against the standing court orders of the status quo.
“Few vested interests who have got their kith and kin adjusted by the incumbent VC want him to stay even if it is at the cost of this institution,” the hand out read.
The complainants demanded that the varsity must be put back on the growth trajectory by appointing a visionary scientist with known credentials of honesty, integrity and scientific background.
“Hon’ble Chief Minister is appealed to address the problems of the varsity at the earliest,” they implored.
