The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has enhanced the honorarium of Special Police Officers (SPOs) of Jammu and Kashmir up to Rs 6000 per month from earlier Rs 3000.

The honorarium is given by the State Government and reimbursed by the Union Government under the Security Related Expenditure (SRE) scheme.

The last enhancement was done in 2006. “This will boost the morale of the SPOs who play a vital role in combating militancy in the State,” an official said.

The Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh has also constituted a committee for assessing the performance, utility and efficacy of the SPOs.

The committee is chaired by JS (J&K), MHA and other members of the committee include representatives of DGP, J&K, Principal Secretary (Home), J&K and IFD (MHA). The enhancement of honorarium will come into effect from Tuesday.
