Police released all the alleged stone-pelters on Monday night in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district, however, the district witnessed shutdown for the consecutive sixth day against police ‘reluctance’ in permitting youth to erect a ‘Martyr’s memorial’ at ‘Shaheed Park’ of the town.
Sources informed CNS that all but 17 youth arrested by police for their alleged involvement in stone-pelting incidents were released. The police held a closed door meeting with the Auqaf Committee Pulwama after which these youth were released.
Confirming it, an Auqaf member said that police did not register any case against any youth all were released on condition that they will not disturb the peace in the town.
“The issue related to a group of youth who have given indefinite shutdown call in the district demanding permission for the erection of ‘Martyr’s Memorial’ in the town was also raised in the meeting. However, police told us that they can’t permit such action,” he said.
Meanwhile, all the shops and business establishments remained shut in the district while transport was off the roads for the sixth consecutive day.
