SRINAGAR: Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir Moulvi Muhammad Umar Farooq on Saturday called for an early resolution of the stipend-related concerns of MBBS and BDS interns across Jammu and Kashmir, saying their demand for an enhancement warranted “serious and urgent consideration”.

In a post on X, Mirwaiz said the existing monthly stipend of Rs 12,300 was inadequate for young doctors working long hours and handling significant clinical responsibilities.
“The concerns raised by MBBS an BDS interns across JK deserve serious and urgent consideration. A stipend of Rs 12,300 is clearly inadequate for young doctors working long hours and carrying significant clinical responsibilities,” he wrote.
He said the prolonged delay was difficult to justify as a government-constituted committee had already recommended an enhancement of the stipend.
“The administration should engage with the interns, address their genuine demand fairly and expeditiously, and ensure that patient care is not disrupted,” Mirwaiz said.
The statement came as the indefinite strike by MBBS and BDS interns across Jammu and Kashmir entered its sixth day on Saturday. The protesting interns are demanding an increase in their monthly stipend from Rs 12,300 to Rs 30,000.
The interns launched the strike on August 31 and withdrew from routine duties at government medical colleges and hospitals across Jammu and Kashmir.
