Srinagar

Internet services have been suspended in Srinagar district following the gunfight between the government forces and militants at Sathu area of Nowgam early today.

Local sources said that internet services were snapped soon after the encounter broke out in the area.

A police official said the suspension of the mobile Internet facility is a precautionary measure to prevent miscreants from creating any law and order problems.

The gunfight started after a joint team of army’s 55 Rashtriya Rifles, SOG and CRPF launched a cordon and search operation in Sathu area of Nowgam in Srinagar district after receiving specific intelligence inputs about the presence of militants.

Meanwhile, all educational institutions have been closed in Srinagar district following the gunfight.
