The Congress backed National Students’ Union of India Monday took forward its membership drive in valley colleges from Amar Singh College. The members of NSUI were seen distributing forms among the student fraternity. The college is considered silent for political activities.

The NSUI had last year launched its membership drive from Valley’s highest seat of learning, Kashmir University, when Rahul Ghandhi visited there. Rahul’s act was strongly opposed by separatists and banned KUSU.

The members of NSUI who themselves are the students of the same college, were seen distributing NSUI forms among students and penning down their names and contact numbers. The NSUI members informed the students who had assembled in small groups to take forms that a NSUI convention would be held in the college soon. “We would be calling a convention here to make students aware about the program of NSUI,” the members of NSUI informed students.

The members were asking students to fill the forms as that would help to take various benefits under central schemes. “Rahul Ji pleaded Ratan Tata to take Kashmiris in his companies, so students should not miss the opportunity,” they said.

Pertinently, Congress and National Conference flouted their student wings after 2010 uprising. This, they said, would give youth of valley ‘platform to express their feelings.’

Valley’s lone students union, Kashmir University Students Union’ was banned and its office demolished.

The members present in Amar Singh College informed that they are going to take this drive to other colleges as well.
