The Hurriyat Conference (M) has denounced the government decision to withhold the passport and other travel documents of party Chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq who was scheduled to participate in the 12th OIC summit to be held in Egyptian capital of Cairo on February 6 and 7.

Expressing serious concern over the issue, the Hurriyat spokesman in a statement said it was highly regretful that Mirwaiz could not attend the summit as travel documents were held by the authorities for reasons known to them.

As per a statement the Hurriyat said by restricting the Hurriyat’s political and diplomatic activities, the government has once again resorted to undemocratic measures by putting embargo on the freedom of speech of people and groups.

The spokesman said the summit which takes place after every four years is of great significance as it discusses the political issues and problems faced by Muslims on global, local and regional levels.

“Due to withholding of travel documents, Mirwaiz has informed OIC that it would not be possible for him to participate in the conference. The APHC Chairman though has sent his message to OIC summit whereby he has stressed the leaders of the Muslim world to support the one crore Kashmiris to get their political rights by deciding their political future according to their wishes and aspirations”, the spokesman said.

Mirwaiz has also asked the world leaders to stress both Pakistan and India to get engaged in a meaningful dialogue for finding solution of Kashmir and other pending issues.

The spokesman said that APHC has asked OIC to deal with the issues faced by Muslims of Afghanistan, Syria and Kashmir by strategizing the efforts. “The Hurriyat being the observer in OIC believes that the world Muslims body would formulate a bold strategy to find the immediate solution of Kashmir issue”, the spokesman added.
