A 40 year old man is on the verge of losing vision of his left eye after a cop allegedly beat him up ruthlessly inside Zainakadal police station in old Srinagar city.

Manzoor Ahmed Daga, a pickle seller, according to his family members was picked up by the cops of Zainakadal police station after one of his relatives had registered a complaint against him over some family dispute.

“Three cops from Zainakadal police station arrived in plain clothes at our Dalal Mohalla residence and took our brother along to police station. They kept him in lock up for a day and again called him to police station next day where they damaged his left eye during interrogation,” Saima Jan, one among the five sisters of Manzoor Ahmed who arrived in Press Enclave said adding that their brother is lying in SMHS hospital and he is on the verge of losing eyesight.

When CNS visited SMHS hospital Srinagar, it found Manzoor Ahmed Daga lying on bed 20 of ward number 8 of the hospital. He has been admitted in the hospital under MRD number 30440 and his left eye was wrapped in bandage while Doctor concerned Imtiyaz said that there is every possibility that victim may lose the vision of his left eye.

“We have been trying hard to save his eye-sight but are not sure whether we will succeed or not. Due to blood clotting, his left eye has been damaged completely,” he said.

In conversation to this news agency, Manzoor Ahmed Daga held a particular cop of Police station Zainakadal responsible for the mess. “The cop who was on the desk busy in writing some papers hit me continuously on my left eye when I reached at police station. The next day again, the same cop hit me on the same spot damaging my eye,” he alleged.

“After the death of my wife, my sister-in-law started taking care of my daughter. I used to bear her expenditure. Last month due to some personal problem, I didn’t pay her anything, as  a result she approached police post Zainakadal. The cops picked me up and the Munshi damaged my eye,” said Manzoor Ahmed.

When contacted, a police official from MR Gunj Police Station refuted the allegations saying that nobody beat him up. “We never resort to physical torture. The accused might have been suffering from some eye defect and now he is blaming a particular cop,” he said.
