The trader’s community of old Srinagar city Saturday observed shutdown against what they called highhandedness of police in targeting the traders after every Friday prayers.

Shahar-e-Khas traders had called for a complete shutdown after a shopkeeper Sajad Ahmad Khan had received pellet injuries outside Jamia Masjid.

All the shops and other business establishments remained shut in Nowhatta, Gojwara, Rajori Kadal and other areas of old Srinagar city. The traders staged a peaceful demonstration and urged upon administration to restrict police movement after Friday prayers in and around Jamia Masjid. “How can we do business in such atmosphere? We are being targeted whenever clashes erupt in the area. We request higher authorities not to deploy police and Para-military troopers especially before and after Friday prayers in and around Jamia Masjid,” the traders demanded. (CNS)
