SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, in his budget speech today, unveiled a significant relief measure, announcing 200 units of free electricity for families under the Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY). The initiative aims to alleviate financial strain on the region’s economically weaker sections.
The move is expected to benefit thousands of low-income households, ensuring uninterrupted access to electricity without additional costs.
In addition to this, Abdullah introduced several welfare measures, including free bus travel for women in state-run transport, an increase in marriage assistance from Rs 50,000 to Rs 70,000, and financial aid for women-led MSMEs to boost economic empowerment.
Additionally, AAY beneficiaries will receive 10 kg of free ration every month from April 1.
