SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, currently in New Delhi on an official visit, met Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar today at the Vice-President’s Enclave. This marks Abdullah’s third visit to the National Capital, underscoring efforts to strengthen ties between Jammu and Kashmir and the central government.

Vice President Dhankhar’s office shared a post on X, formerly Twitter, confirming the meeting, “Shri Omar Abdullah ji, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir called on Hon’ble Vice-President, Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar at Vice-President’s Enclave today.”
During his visit, Abdullah is scheduled to hold further discussions with key officials, including President of India Droupadi Murmu and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. These engagements reflect Jammu and Kashmir’s commitment to enhancing coordination with the central government.
Yesterday, Abdullah attended the Conference of Power Ministers of States and Union Territories, chaired by Union Minister for Power Manohar Lal Khattar. In the forum, Abdullah raised concerns over the constraints Jammu and Kashmir faces in utilising its hydroelectric potential due to the Indus Water Treaty. The treaty limits the region’s ability to store water from the Indus, Chenab, and Jhelum rivers, restricting Jammu and Kashmir to run-of-the-river projects, which lack water storage capacity.
Abdullah’s participation in the technical sessions highlighted the region’s unique energy challenges and emphasised the need for policy adaptations to fully harness its river resources.
