SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir National Conference Vice President Omar Abdullah raised concerns on Thursday regarding the ongoing census being conducted by the JK police, questioning the authority under which it is being carried out.

Omar while addressing a one-day delegate session of the central zone, Jammu said, “There is no let-up in the problems being suffered by the people, as households are being sent absurd and humiliating documents. What legitimate objectives could justify such comprehensive data collection regarding inhabitants and its potential use.”

Omar urged the functionaries to ready themselves for the elections whenever they happen. “Eventually, BJP will have to adhere to the directives of the Honourable Supreme Court to conduct elections. Once the elections are announced, we will demonstrate our position and theirs,” he asserted.

He further stated that the BJP was dressing up its failures as success, noting that the prevailing ground situation, characterised by deteriorating security conditions, unemployment, development deficits, and administrative inertia, run contrary to their claims.
