SRINAGAR

omarNational Conference Working President Omar Abdullah Friday conducted an extensive tour of areas falling under the Batamaloo Constituency that have been adversely affected by water-logging and flooding due to a breach in a local nallah. The NC Working President was accompanied by NC Leader and Batamaloo Constiuency In-charge Irfan Ahmed Shah and Political Secretary Tanvir Sadiq.

According to statement, Omar visited various localities and residential colonies “that continue to be water-logged and also visited those areas where residential houses have suffered extensive damage due to the incessant rainfall.”

The spokesman of NC alleged that the locals complained about discrimination by the administration in dispensing relief and de-watering operations and told the “NC leader that nobody from the administration had cared to mitigate their sufferings beyond photo-ops.”

The NC Working President asked the Government to address the issues on a priority basis and ensure that de-watering is conducted in a focused and sustained manner as a lot of areas continue to be water-logged. Omar Abdullah also asked the Government to conduct immediate assessment of losses to residential houses and dispense interim relief to the affected families.

The spokesman further adds that the NC Leader and Constituency In-charge Batamaloo, Irfan Ahmed Shah lashed out at the administration and the local MLA for perpetuating discrimination in de-watering and relief operations and said there was raging discontent in the area because of these petty tactics.

“The administration should realize that people expect governance and not just hollow marketing. The administration had chosen to turn a blind eye towards Batamaloo which is the most adversely affected area in Srinagar. This behavior is extremely condemn-able and unacceptable. I implore the administration to leave no stone un-turned the de-water all the areas on a priority basis and stop discriminating while dispensing governance to the people”, Irfan Ahmed Shah stated.
