SRINAGAR: The Omar Abdullah-led government is committed to the holistic development of every sector and section of society across Jammu and Kashmir, Minister for Health and Medical Education, Social Welfare and Education, Sakeena Itoo said today.
She was speaking at the inauguration of the Outpatient Department (OPD), AYUSH & Wellness Centre, and other critical sections of the Trauma Hospital Bijbehara.
Sakeena Itoo said that the government has gained public trust through the vote and is determined to work for the welfare of the people. She said the government’s performance over the past seven months reflects steady progress in health, education, and social sectors.
Highlighting the government’s focus on healthcare, she said over 300 doctors have been recruited in recent months and posted in areas where medical services need strengthening, especially rural locations. She emphasised that upgrading medical infrastructure and improving grassroots-level healthcare are core priorities.
She urged the public to make proper use of the newly established AYUSH and Wellness Centre.
During the event, the Minister took a round of the hospital, inspected its functioning, and interacted with doctors and staff. She reviewed the availability of critical care equipment and medicines and said the hospital’s location along the National Highway makes it vital during emergencies.
MLA Srigufwara-Bijbehara Dr Bashir Ahmad Veeri submitted a memorandum listing health and education needs in his constituency. The Minister assured that the demands would be taken up on priority.
Later, she visited Government Degree College Bijbehara and Government Girls Higher Secondary School Bijbehara. She interacted with students and faculty and reviewed infrastructure and academic requirements. She said the government is focused on improving both facilities and teaching quality across educational institutions in Jammu and Kashmir.
The Minister was accompanied by the MLA, and senior officials from the Health, Social Welfare, Education, and AYUSH departments.
